the moment you realize
… that your co-workers have bizarre taste in guys.
So I’ve returned from Ottawa yesterday and am back to the grind this morning. Let me tell you, waking up at 6:30 am is a painful and brutal thing — no one should have to do it. In fact, it should be illegal. Henceforth, in MyWorld, 6:30 am wake-ups are illegal unless you are a employed in the health/emergency/police/travel...
okay, the razor sharp butterflies are here
I sent an email the other night to Bubbles*. Yes, I sucked it up, showed my non-existent cajones and contacted them and let them know I was still interested in the position.
They called.
I squealed inside.
They called while I was at work with DP.
I very badly botched the initial phone call, “Uhhh, can I call you back?” I’m such an idiot sometimes.
But call them back I did....
she's learning
When my mother walks into my room to hand-feed me a new type of sausage (no dirty jokes allowed!), it’s a sign that she’s been brainstorming new ways to lure me into having a family meal with her and dad.
… it’s working.

Signed.
producermatthew:
Tumblr users are asking 1,000 bloggers to sign an online petition that calls for a controversial publisher to be removed as an editor of an enhanced tag on the site.
The petition targets user “Ryking,” with the claim that the blogger has defended “rapists, calling women who disagree with him ‘feminazis,’ using gendered slurs against women, and repeatedly heaping praise...
soooo, conundrum
This may be paranoia — or maybe my spidey senses. You tell me.
Things have been going well at DP, and I honestly was getting into a good rhythm. But there’s no way to deny that, well, it’s been slow. Painfully slow. Then our receptionist quit, so they were scrambling to fill her position.
And then they came to me. Things have been slow, we’re thinking of revamping front...
what a GAME
I refuse to make any puns or cutesy phrases with Jeremy Lin’s name incorporated. That’s just principal.
But I will say this: the game last night was madness!
As everyone knows, I’m not that athletic. Sure, I’ll give it a good try but I usually end up swallowing a mouthful of salt water (when I attempted surfing) or loose a front tooth (hello, tobogganing!). There are a...
long weekend
My VIArail ticket has been purchased. On Saturday, bay 11 am, I will be in Ottawa! Woot! (I don’t know why I just woot-ed — I mean, it’s Ottawa. But the fam is there, so I guess the woot can stay).
pause, panic
True story.
As of a minute and 45 seconds ago, I walked into the kitchen to find my dad sprawled across the floor of the kitchen.
My brain stalled, and I stood there, inhaler in hand, giant asthmatic chamber to my mouth (sounds crazy but here’s an image to help you visualize: () and went, “Dad?”
Dad: “Muh.”
That’s when I realized he had my sister’s...
a lot on my mind
There’s a lot of stuff on my mind lately. Fack. Why can’t things just go smoothly? Bah.
I’m evaluating a lot of stuff that’s going on in my life right now. Things just aren’t working out the way I had planned — but when have they ever? Family, work … it’s all just such a rollercoaster.
Can we get to the part in the Disney movie where...

my first leafs game
Natalie and I had plans last night to just hang out at my place, but while at work yesterday morning, I got this doozy:
“So, Caroline, wanna come with me to a leafs game tonight?”
YES! It was an awesome night! Natalie’s dad always gets season tickets for the hockey games, he’s a die hard fan. Last night he didn’t feel like going to the Oilers vs. Toronto Maple...
it's love.
I know this may sound crazy and sudden, but it’s love. It’s deep and it’s real.
His name is Oakley. And he’s a golden doodle.
Isn’t he the cutest?! I adore him. My boss Amy has brought Oakley in twice in the past two weeks, and I gotta say, it’s been bliss. He’s so well-mannered and sweet, he just wanders around the office unleashed. He’s huge...
positivity
My blog has been painfully scant, but as most of you know, I’ve been trucking away at the new job so it’s taken up a lot of my time. Ironically, I launched a Tumblr blog for DP and I blog on that thing constantly. I guess I’ve used up all my blogging juices with the DP blog and therefore have slacked with my personal one.
Now that I have a grown-up job, I really appreciate my...

it's vintage
You may think I’m going to start talking about clothes, or cars or even jewelery, but you’re wrong.
I’m talking about my phone.
I prefer to think of it as a classic: old-school, traditional … vintage. So what if I don’t have a data plan? So what if all it can do is send and receive text message, do outgoing and incoming calls, voicemail and caller ID? And my...

"working out"
Yes. It’s true. I’ve taken to “working out.”
Every so often, the work out bug bites me. Cute swim suits start appearing in stores, the promise of a seductive summer lingers and suddenly I need to get in shape! Let me be clear: my interest in the gym is to stave off my impending heart attack, and yeah, tone up. Other than that, though, I am more than happy with myself.

moving time
Guess whose moving?
Moi! I know, hardly a surprise considering that this is my blog, but just go with it. My parents have caught the home renovation bug and informed Katherine and I that they were planning on selling our beloved home by summertime.
My parents have toyed about moving for years, but this is the most active I’ve ever seen them pursue it. They’re planning on moving...
classy dinner conversation
Me: "Have you ever gotten a dirty picture texted you before?"
Doug: "Uh, no. Why? Have you?"
Me: "No! But I've asked other guy friends and it's really common apparently."
Doug: "Really?"
Me: "Really."
*A moment of silence*
Me: "So how would you react if you got one?"
Doug: "I don't know. I'd probably wait 20 minutes to seem really cool and say 'Thanks.'"
Me: "'Thanks"?"
Doug: "I don't know how to respond!"
Me: "There has to be etiquette. Maybe send one back?"
Doug: "Um, no."
Me: "I wonder what the accepted response is. . . ."
Doug: "When you find out, tell me?"
Me: "Of course! And if someone sends you one, tell me?"
Doug: "Of course. I'll even forward it to you."
Me: "Great. Just photoshop her head out."
Doug: "Agreed."
ah, there you are, Winter
Just when I thought winter was never going to arrive to Toronto, we got slapped in the face by Mother Nature with icy conditions, a bitingly cold wind and sporadic snow. My usual 30 minute drive to the subway turned into an hour and 20 minute nightmare, and I was a half hour late for work. Not good, considering that this was my first full week at DP. On the flipside, my supervisor Amy* was about...
getting into the rhythm of things
So things are trucking along well at DP, I’m constantly focused on all the little details of the job. I spend most of my time in front of a computer, combing the database, or running into my supervisor’s office to ask her opinion on something.
All in all, I think I’m falling into a pleasant rhythm. I just really miss sleeping in.
Okay, next time, I promise I’ll have...
decision made
I did the honest thing and informed Bubbles* that I was no longer available to interview. I hope I made the right decision.
decisions, decisions
I got some surprising news when I checked my email this morning. Remember when I was on the job hunt before I got hired by DP? Well. The saga continues.
Let’s call this company… Bubbles, ha. Bubbles was the first company I applied for — when I researched this company, I really wanted it. I worked my ass off to try and impress them, and when we phone-interviewed over a month...
swish!
I went to my first NBA game on Friday, Raptors vs. the Nets. I know, I know, what kind of Torontonian am I for not ever attending a Raptors or Leafs game?
First and foremost, a heartfelt thanks to my friend John for hooking us up! He’s a chef at the Air Canada Club and he did me a huge favour and I am eternally grateful. :)
PS. John:Janelle, Kaitlyn and I will be needing tickets,...
smiles all around
I gotta say, I’m really loving my time at DP. Yes, the early mornings are painfully brutal, but by the end of the day I feel alert, productive and energetic. The work is challenging and new, and I’m getting quite fond of my co-workers. I like my snazzy office, although I’m freezing these days so I’ll be bringing a throw from now on. And the owner/director of DP brought in a...
no one beat me up for my lunch money
My first day at DP has come and gone and I gotta say, I enjoyed myself. Yes, waking up at 6:30 am (kill me now) was brutal, but once I was coherent and functioning, the day went well. I carpooled with my mom (be green, people) and then TTC-ed from Fairview; all in all, the commute wasn’t too bad.
My new coworkers are really great, very friendly. We’re a staff of about 12 or so, and...
first day
The outfit had been tried on (twice). The office shoes packed away, the coat laid against my chair, my breakfast planned out. Tomorrow is my first day at DP and I am ready to roll.
8:30 am, it begins.
he's the Vietnamese equivalent of Homer Simpson
Me: "I've got some leftover ice wine from New Year's, Dad, did you want some?"
Dad: "Nope. I don't drink."
Me: "What?"
Dad: "I don't drink."
Me: "What?"
Dad: "Maybe once a year."
Me: "What?"
Dad: "Only special occasions; once a year."
Me: "Uhhhh, I think it's more often than that, Dad."
Dad: "I don't like the taste of beer."
Me: "Okay, no, that's just false. You love to drink. You drink all the time."
Dad: "No, no, I don't drink."
Me: "Riiiiggghhhhtttt . . . . "
this is how rockstars roll
Spending my day brewing myself a cup of Toasted Walnut tea from David’s Tea, vegging around the house in my PJs and sock-slippers, leisurely reading and watching episodes of How I Met Your Mother Season 6.
WIN.
You should start each day with a song in your heart, a gleam in your eye and...

2012
It’s time to lace up your dancing shoes and ring in the new year! This last year has definitely been a roller-coaster ride for me, but I’m excited to see what 2012 brings for me.
Hope you all have a happy, healthy and memorable year to come!
excuse this interruption
I’m attempting to re-tweak my blog, so you’ll have to bear with me.
peace out
Yesterday was the annual retail nightmare/free-for-all known as Boxing Day. This yearly event is more like a battle: a test that separates the children from the men and women. Yes, you may be reduced to tears — you’ll most certainly be tearing out your hair while you fight crowds, kill each other for parking spaces and basically spend about 2/3s of your day waiting in endless lines.
